City Hospice’s Forever Flowers display has returned to Cardiff Castle for a fifth consecutive year.
The display opened to the public on Saturday (2 August) and features this year’s Forever Flower which is the daffodil, Wales’ national flower, symbolising hope, resilience and new beginnings for many. Expertly crafted by the British Ironwork Centre, these unique and lasting tributes will be on display in the grounds of Cardiff Castle until 10 August.
As part of this year’s event, local schools have contributed 400 pieces of artwork to create a ‘Garden of Memories’, a special art project showcasing pupils’ collaborative designs on banners during the free display, reflecting themes of remembrance, care and community.
Dr Liz Booyse, Chief Executive of City Hospice, said: “We’re delighted to be back at Cardiff Castle for this year’s Forever Flowers display and grateful for their continued support in hosting us. The daffodils look stunning, and we encourage everyone to visit over the summer to experience this powerful display first-hand.
“Forever Flowers is a meaningful opportunity for our community to gather in remembrance of those we’ve lost, and with the addition of the Garden of Memories, it’s extra special this year. Seeing young people express care and compassion through their artwork is a moving reminder of how deeply these values run across generations.”
On 7 August, Forever Flowers supporters are invited to a special Celebration of Life event, offering a safe space to unite and honour the lives of loved ones. Working with DEPOT Live to stage the event, speakers will include the charity’s Chief Executive Dr Liz Booyse and the High Sheriff of South Glamorgan Janet Davies, in addition to contributions from clinical nurse specialists, fundraisers, supporters and volunteers, and performances by the Rock Choir and harpist Rhiannon Dutt.
Forever Flowers supports the work of City Hospice, the only provider of home-based specialist palliative care in Cardiff. The charity provides care and a wide range of services including welfare advice and complementary therapies to patients with terminal or life limiting illnesses, as well as bereavement support and counselling for the families of its patients.
