The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain across parts of Wales on Wednesday 17 September, with heavy downpours expected to cause disruption throughout the day.

The warning is in place from 6am until 11pm on Wednesday, with forecasters warning that flooding and travel delays are possible.

    What to expect

    • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible

    • Spray and surface water on roads may cause longer journey times

    • Disruption to bus and train services is likely

    • A chance of some interruption to power supplies and other services

    Forecast details

Rain will become persistent and at times heavy across south and southwest Wales from Wednesday morning, continuing for much of the day. Between 30 and 40 mm of rain is expected widely, with some areas, particularly on southwest-facing hills, seeing 50 to 70 mm.

The Met Office has advised residents to prepare for potential flooding and to check local travel updates before setting out. Drivers are urged to allow extra time for journeys, while those travelling by public transport should expect possible delays.

    Advice for residents

    • Check if your property is at risk of flooding and consider preparing a flood plan

    • Put together an emergency kit including torches, batteries, and a mobile power pack in case of power cuts

    • Keep up to date with the latest weather forecasts, as warnings can change quickly

    Areas affected

The yellow warning covers much of south and mid Wales, including:
Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath Port Talbot, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, and the Vale of Glamorgan.
