Natural Resources Wales has issued an update following severe flooding across parts of Wales caused by Storm Claudia, with several communities still facing significant disruption.

The organisation said its thoughts are with everyone affected by the flooding and confirmed that four severe flood warnings remain in place. These cover the River Monnow at Watery Lane in Over Monnow, the River Wye at Monmouth defended areas, the River Monnow at Forge Road in Osbaston, and the River Monnow at Skenfrith.

Alongside these severe warnings, there are eight flood warnings and 39 flood alerts active across Wales.

Although the heaviest rain linked to Storm Claudia has now moved through, slow responding rivers are expected to continue rising through the day. People are being urged to stay clear of swollen riverbanks and avoid walking or driving through floodwater under any circumstances.

Anyone who needs to travel is advised to check their journey in advance and follow any diversions that have been set up.

Natural Resources Wales is asking the public to keep a close eye on the latest forecasts. Flood warnings are updated every 15 minutes on the organisation’s website.

A major incident has also been declared in Monmouth due to the scale of the flooding. More details are available at: https://www.wales247.co.uk/major-incident-declared-as-severe-flooding-hits-monmouth
