Swansea city centre is set to sparkle this weekend as blazing fire and glistening ice take over the streets in a festive winter spectacle.

Visitors can follow a trail of dazzling ice sculptures, capture magical moments in the giant snow globe on Portland Street, and try their hand at interactive ice carving.

There’ll also be fire and ice shows at St David’s Place and dynamic fire performances on Oxford Street.

Families can meet bouncing snowmen and characters from hit movie Frozen roaming the streets throughout the day, while music lovers can sing along at The Caroler’s Cabin, which is sponsored by Costa Coffee.

The weekend’s live music programme at the Caroler’s Cabin includes:

    Saturday December 6

    • 10am-11am: Village Voices
    • 11am-12pm: Mumbles Lifeboat Singers
    • 1pm-2pm: Hot Gin Swing
    • 2:30pm-3:30pm: The Phoenix Choir of Wales
    • 4pm-5pm: The J Tones

    Sunday December 7

    • 11am-11:45am: Rock Choir

    • 12pm-1pm: Swansea University Musician’s Society

    • 2pm-3pm: Choirs for Good

    • 3:30pm-4:30pm: Chris Haul

Timings of the fire and shows – together with a map for the ice trail – can be found here.

On Saturday and Sunday, ice trail maps will also be available at the market garden in Swansea Market, Costa Coffee on Whitewalls and Oxford Street, and the new central library at the Y Storfa development on Oxford Street.

Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: “We’re looking to make this the best Swansea Christmas ever.

“From dazzling ice sculptures to fiery performances and live music, there’s something magical for everyone to enjoy this weekend at the Fire and Ice Festival, which is a first for our city centre.

“The festival follows-on from the return of our award-winning Christmas Parade.

“It’s one of many festive events and activities happening in Swansea in the build-up to Christmas as we look to make the season as memorable as possible for local families and local people, while also helping support our fantastic city centre businesses with the increased footfall that these events generate.”

Other festive events and activities include the Christmas Market, which is now available on Oxford Street and Portland Street until December 22.  The traditional wooden chalets will be joined by a Merry Marquee from Friday December 5 to Sunday December 7, and from Friday December 12 to Sunday December 14. This will be home to a selection of traders offering unique gifts and treats.

On Saturday December 13 and Sunday December 14, Mistletoe and Markets will bring a programme of live entertainment and special Christmas characters at both Swansea Market and the Christmas Market. More details can be found here.

Waterfront Winterland has also now returned to Museum Park until January 4.
