New runners are being encouraged to nominate themselves to get involved in the 2026 ABP Newport Marathon Festival 100 Club.

Run 4 Wales are donating 100 free spaces into the event for those new to the sport to take part in either the 10K or half marathon distances.

The 100 Club initiative was set up to support people in the local community who could use the event to help improve their health and wellbeing. Since it was established in 2024 it has supported over 200 runners to find their stride.

Many groups such as Gwent Drug & Alcohol Service, Slimming World, Newport Live and If You Go I Go have been involved and have seen members go on to find a love of running as a result.

Several groups are also getting involved for 2026 however there are still a number of nomination places available.

The race returns to the city on Sunday 19th April and general entry into the marathon and half marathon distances have already sold out, in what is becoming a popular event in the Welsh running calendar.

Matt Newman, Chief Executive at Run 4 Wales, said: “Run 4 Wales believes in the power of mass participation and the ability that events like the Newport Marathon have to inspire people to take up running and make positive life changes.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing back the 100 Club to Newport for 2026 and would love to encourage local residents who’d benefit from taking part to apply.”

Nominations are open to individuals and groups. Those who are interested in taking part just need to fill out a short form including detail about why they’d like to be part of the 100 Club.

The chosen applicants will then be able to choose between a free 10K or half marathon space at the ABP Newport Marathon Festival which takes place on Sunday 19th April.

Those recruited must be at least 15 years of age on the day of the event to be able to attend and participate in the 10K and 17 years for the half marathon.

Alongside the free event space, membership of the 100 Club will include:

    • A free trial with run coaching app Coopah, which offers instant personalised and adaptable training plans, access to coaches and more.
    • A Newport Marathon 100 Club technical t-shirt, to wear on race day and in training.
    • An invite to a training event in March, including a talk with a running expert, an opportunity to ask questions and participate in a guided training run
    • Access to a pre-race chill zone ahead of race day group photograph
    • Access to a closed WhatsApp support group to talk to your fellow 100 Club members
