Cold water swims returned to Lido Ponty on Saturday 24 January, with the popular sessions once again welcoming swimmers to the much-loved outdoor pools.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council confirmed the weekend swims will run every Saturday and Sunday until early March, with pool temperatures set at 15 degrees. Tickets are on sale now, and the sessions are open to swimmers aged 16 and over.

The cold water swims attracted visitors from across the UK last year and follow the success of the Boxing Day and New Year’s Day celebration swims, which both sold out again in 2025. The sessions mark the start of Lido Ponty’s 2026 season, before a short pause ahead of the main summer opening at Easter.

Cllr Scott Emmanuel, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, including Lido Ponty, said the swims were a great way to relax and enjoy the much loved outdoor pools. He added that swimmers can stay in the water for as little or as long as they like, with wetsuits and cold water gear optional.

The council also highlighted the growing popularity of cold water therapy, with Lido Ponty offering a welcoming introduction in the scenic surroundings of Ynysangharad War Memorial Park. Warm showers and changing facilities are available, alongside nearby cafes and restaurants for a hot drink afterwards.

Tickets for the cold water swim sessions can be purchased via the Lido Ponty website.
