The scheme offering Vale of Glamorgan residents the chance to access green home energy upgrades has reopened for applications.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council, working in partnership with Cardiff Capital Region and councils across the south-east, has selected iChoosr, who are independent experts in group-buying, to bring the Switch Together scheme to the Vale’s homeowners.
Switch Together, which was formerly known as Solar Together has already helped 109 households in the Vale of Glamorgan cut their energy bills and their carbon emissions by installing rooftop solar panels on their homes.
Alongside six other Welsh Local Authorities, The Vale of Glamorgan Council participated in the project to help meet Welsh Government targets to become carbon neutral by 2050.
In just over six months, the first phase of the scheme in 2025 delivered impressive results:
- 109 households across the Vale installed solar panels with a total of 1,401 panels fitted
- An estimated 89,916 kg of CO₂ emissions will be saved in the first year alone
- 630 kilowatts of new clean energy generation capacity created
- Over £1 million of private investment made into local homes
- 40 Welsh installers have been supported through work generated by the programme
The County also recorded the second-highest number of potential customers, with Cardiff being the only other area to exceed that achievement.
Cllr Bronwen Brooks, Member for Sustainable Places, said: “I am proud at what we have achieved here in the Vale with the Solar Together scheme.”
“These results demonstrate our commitment to protecting the natural environment by encouraging the use of renewable energy, while also helping to provide the best possible services in collaboration with our partners for our residents.”
“This scheme links perfectly with our Project Zero commitment to become carbon neutral by 2030 and follows on from other green initiatives, including our excellent recycling systems.”
Following the project’s success, the relaunched scheme is offering access to a much wider range of green home energy solutions, including battery storage, electric vehicle chargers, and smart energy tariffs, in addition to solar panels.
Registration is free, quick, and commitment-free. All installations through the scheme come with insurance backed guarantees.
