A Teqball table, a fun activity combining table tennis and football skills, is also being installed at the side of the court and a path leading to the new space is being widened.
Councillor Mark Spencer, Newport City Council’s cabinet member for communities and sport, said: “This is a brilliant project to create new sporting opportunities on the former courts at the front of Beechwood House and will add to the park’s existing facilities which include tennis courts and a multi-use games area.
“The popular park also has play areas, green spaces, an entertainment area and a café. It is a great place for people of all ages. It is maintained by hard-working council employees and we are grateful to the Beechwood Park Community Group who organise so many excellent events during the year.
“We are all looking forward to the completion of the new courts this spring.”
It has been made possible by an award of £72,000 from the Sport Wales court collaboration programme.
