Newport Council’s major road resurfacing programme will move to Bassaleg next week as they start work on the A467 Risca by-pass and Bassaleg roundabout.
Resurfacing work will be carried out overnight over the next few weeks. The work will be split into three parts:
    • Part 1 – A467 southbound between Morrisons roundabout and Bassaleg roundabout
    • Part 2 – A467 northbound between Chartist Drive and Morrisons roundabout
    • Part 3 – Bassaleg roundabout
    Part 1 – A467 southbound

Work on the A467 southbound section will begin today, Monday (2 March) and run through to Friday 6 March. Work will take place overnight, between the hours of 8pm and 5am.

Diversions will be in place throughout the closure periods for southbound traffic and will be signposted.

The A467 northbound lanes will be open during these times.

    Part 2 – A467 northbound

Resurfacing work on the northbound side of the A467 carriageway, between Chartist Drive and the Morrisons roundabout, will take place overnight on Sunday 8 and Monday 9 March between the hours of 8pm and 5am.

Diversions will be in place throughout for northbound traffic and will be signposted.

The A467 southbound lanes will be open during these times.

    Part 3 – Bassaleg roundabout

Resurfacing work on the roundabout itself will take place from Monday 9 to Friday 13 March.

Again, work will take place overnight between the hours of 8pm and 5am.

This work will be split into two phases. The western half of the roundabout will be closed on Monday 9, Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 March. The closure includes:

    • the northbound approach to the roundabout from Forge Road
    • the junction with Court Crescent
    • the junction with the A468 Caerphilly Road
    • the northbound exit onto the A467.

Resident access will be maintained when possible. All other traffic will be required to use the signposted diversion routes.

The eastern half of the roundabout will be closed on Tuesday 10 and Friday 13 March, where the closure will apply to:

    • the southbound approach from the A467
    • the Park View junction
    • the southbound exit onto Forge Road

Again, signposted diversion routes will be in place during the closure periods. Residents are advised to access Park View via Pye Corner or Bassaleg Road.
