Caerphilly County Borough Council’s flagship Ty Darran later living scheme in Risca has been officially opened.

Residents and guests were entertained by Risca Male Voice Choir before the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by the Council’s Leader, Cllr Jamie Pritchard, and Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Shayne Cook.

Ty Darran is an innovative development, unlike anything the Council has delivered before, and built to the highest levels of energy efficiency.

The scheme, delivered by construction expert Willmott Dixon, provides 45 high-quality later living apartments, each with its own private outdoor space, alongside a range of multi-purpose indoor and outdoor communal areas designed to promote independence, wellbeing and community connection.

The first residents will begin moving into their new homes this week.

Cllr Jamie Pritchard said “Ty Darran represents a major step forward in how we support later living in Caerphilly County Borough. This flagship development shows our commitment to delivering high-quality, modern homes that promote independence while creating a strong sense of community.”

Cllr Shayne Cook added “This is an innovative scheme that sets a new standard for the Council. Seeing residents begin to move in this week is incredibly rewarding, and we’re proud to deliver a development that will make a real difference to people’s lives.

“There’s already a real buzz and sense of belonging here at Ty Darran. From naming the building to choosing colour schemes and being involved in key decisions, residents have played a central role at every stage of the journey. That involvement has helped shape not just a building, but a community.”

Ian Jones, Director at Willmott Dixon said, “I believe that Ty Darran has become a real flagship later living development in Risca. It stands as an example of what true collaboration can accomplish. With Caerphilly Homes, Willmott Dixon, partners and stakeholders working seamlessly as one integrated team from concept to completion—overcoming complex challenges and setting a new benchmark for modern construction. We hope Ty Darran becomes more than just a place to live — we hope it becomes a community, filled with comfort, friendship and independence for many years to come.”
