A historic Supermarine Spitfire has continued its commemorative UK tour with a new flight departing from South Wales this morning, following earlier weather disruption.

The aircraft, known as ‘K5054’, will take off this morning (Wednesday) off from MOD St Athan at 10:00am as part of Route 7 of the Spitfire90 tour, heading towards Newquay Airport. Organisers have advised that exact routings and timings may change depending on weather conditions.

Today’s journey comes after delays to the planned schedule yesterday. A previous leg, Route 6 from RAF Valley, was rescheduled to depart at 4:00pm local time on Tuesday, with updates being shared via official social media channels.

Earlier in the week, the iconic aircraft arrived at RAF Valley following a scenic journey from Glasgow Prestwick Airport. The route saw the Spitfire fly over the Lake District before tracking along the coastline near Blackpool and Southport. During part of the flight, it was joined by a BAE Systems Hawk T2 from RAF Valley.

Adverse weather conditions have already impacted the tour schedule, with one planned day of flying cancelled earlier this week. Organisers had initially hoped to continue the journey to MOD St Athan before carrying out further sorties to RAF St Mawgan and Exeter, subject to improved conditions.

The Spitfire90 tour is marking a significant milestone in British aviation history, with aviation enthusiasts closely following each leg of the journey as the aircraft travels across the UK.

People are being encouraged to keep an eye on official updates for the latest timings and route information as the tour continues.
