Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has announced that Councillor Ann Crimmings has been elected as the new Leader of the Council at its Annual General Meeting, held on Wednesday, April 29.

Councillor Ann Crimmings was elected following the decision of Councillor Andrew Morgan OBE to step down from the role earlier this year.

Councillor Crimmings, who has represented the Aberdare West and Llwydcoed ward since 2004, becomes the second female Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council.

As well as being a Councillor, Ann is an active volunteer in a number of community groups and committees including Cwmdare for Cwmdare, Friends of Aberdare Park, a volunteer at Aberdare Park Parkrun, and she regularly attends Dare Valley Country Park community litter pick, and is Chair of Governors at Aberdare Park Primary School, and Chair of Nos Galan Road Races Committee.

Speaking following her election, Councillor Ann Crimmings said: “I am humbled and honoured to be elected Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council. Having been elected by the community since 2004, I am delighted to represent residents across Rhondda Cynon Taf to ensure that our County Borough continues to thrive.

“I look forward to building upon the Council’s strong track record of delivery, working with colleagues, staff, partners and communities across Rhondda Cynon Taf to continue improving services for residents.

“It is a privilege to have the opportunity to follow in Andrew’s footsteps by investing in the Council’s staff and frontline services, transforming our communities, and supporting all residents who rely upon the excellent Council services we provide day in, day out.”

Councillor Andrew Morgan OBE added: “I have known Ann personally for many years and have worked alongside her since we were both elected in 2004. Ann is an incredibly caring and compassionate individual who serves her community with great passion and commitment.

“Ann brought a wealth of experience with her before entering local government and has been a member of Cabinet since 2014. She has played a key role in taking forward the services for which she has been responsible, including the largest investment in leisure facilities and significant improvements in recycling.

“Ann’s experience, dedication and values make her the right person to lead Rhondda Cynon Taf Council forward.”

Councillor Crimmings was previously Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and has also held responsibility for frontline services and leisure. She served as Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf between 2013 and 2014.

As Leader, Councillor Crimmings will now lead the Council’s Cabinet and work with elected members, officers and partners to continue delivering key priorities for communities across Rhondda Cynon Taf.
