Neighbourhood police officers have intercepted a suspected drug deal in Cardiff city centre, leading to the seizure of class A drugs and the arrest of a 41 year old man.

Officers from the Cardiff Bay Neighbourhood Policing Team were on patrol in Callaghan Square at around 3pm on Saturday afternoon when they witnessed what they believed to be a drug transaction taking place.

Those involved were detained and searched at the scene. Police recovered 12 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin, with a further 36 wraps later seized from a nearby home address linked to the suspect.

In total, 48 wraps of class A drugs were taken off the streets.

Craig Trevor Jones, 41, of Cathays, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Monday, May 4, charged with possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and possession with intent to supply heroin.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on June 1.

Inspector Gareth Handy, from South Wales Police, said: “This stop search is just one example of how the Cardiff Bay Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to proactively disrupt drug supply.
“The seizure of 48 wraps of class A drugs highlights our commitment to protecting communities from harm.”
