A Swansea club is helping children with cancer gain greater independence thanks to a £5,582 donation to buy specialised mobility buggies.
Chris Board, general manager of Fiction on Little Wind Street, nominated LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity to receive the money to purchase 15 robust lightweight buggies to help children receiving treatment for cancer and leukaemia to get out and about.
Chris said: “The donation is from our company’s Echo Trust charity to give something back to our local community. We hold regular collections at the club and our customers are always generous. We wanted LATCH to benefit because of its amazing support for children and their families in Swansea and throughout Wales.”
In addition to the buggies, the donation will fund ten transfusion stands used in treatment in the Rainbow Ward at the Children’s Hospital for Wales in Cardiff.
Stephen Price, public relations, communications and events officer at LATCH, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Echo Trust and Fiction for this generous donation. The buggies will go to families to help children who have difficulties walking because of their illness and treatment. It will give them greater freedom so they can experience life to the full.
“We have to raise upwards of £800,000 per year in our aim to support children with cancer and leukaemia and their families from across Wales so such donations are very welcome.”
