The countdown is on to IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea, with thousands of competitors and spectators set to descend on the city for one of its biggest annual events on Sunday, 12 July.
The sold out event is expected to deliver a £4.5 million boost to the local economy each year, providing significant benefits for Swansea’s tourism, hotel and hospitality sectors.
To ensure the safety of athletes and spectators, temporary road closures will be in place across parts of the city. Most closures will take effect on Sunday, although a small number will be introduced on Saturday near the swim start.
The routes will largely follow previous years, with minor changes made following feedback.
A number of key routes across Swansea city centre, Mumbles, Gower and surrounding areas will be affected at different times during the event. Organisers say roads will be reopened as quickly as possible once competitors have passed through each section of the course.
Emergency access will be maintained throughout the event.
Residents and businesses located along the IRONMAN 70.3 route will receive letters outlining how travel in their area may be affected, while clearly signposted diversion routes will also be in place.
A dedicated contact service has been established for residents and businesses. Queries can be made by calling 03330 11 66 00 or emailing [email protected].
Essential access for carers will also be facilitated. Anyone requiring assistance is asked to contact [email protected] before 10 July where possible.
Motorists are being encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra time for journeys and consider using public transport where possible.
Full details of the road closures and travel arrangements are available on the Visit Swansea Bay website.
