Work to transform Swansea’s Castle Square into a greener and more welcoming public space is progressing well, with major construction now underway.
The project, being delivered by Swansea Council, has moved into its main construction phase after essential preparation work was completed earlier this year.
Since work began in the spring, contractors have carried out a range of enabling works, including diverting underground utilities and carefully removing and storing materials that will be reused as part of the redevelopment.
Construction has now advanced to include the removal of outdated features, excavation work to create new ground levels and the installation of new foundations.
Council leader Rob Stewart said: “It’s great to see this important transformation firmly underway.
“Our plans will create a much more welcoming Castle Square Gardens that will serve the public for generations to come.
“We’re excited about the improvements and confident people will enjoy the changes.”
Throughout the works, pedestrian access and access for nearby businesses is being maintained.
Once complete, the new Castle Square Gardens will feature expanded green spaces, additional seating, a new water feature, improved lighting and flexible areas designed for events and social gatherings.
The redevelopment forms part of wider investment across Swansea city centre and is expected to open during the second half of next year.
