A major new extra care development in Porth has been completed and handed over to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, with its first residents set to move in next month.
The Council and Codi Group have confirmed construction of the new development on the former Dan-y-Mynydd Residential Care Home site has now finished, marking a significant milestone ahead of welcoming residents in August.
The development has transformed the former care home site into Rhondda Cynon Taf’s fourth extra care scheme, joining Ty Heulog in Talbot Green, Maesyffynnon in Aberaman and Cwrt yr Orsaf in Graig.
Designed to help older people live independently, the development offers 60 self contained apartments where residents can come and go freely while receiving scheduled care and support when needed, including assistance in urgent situations.
The building also includes a range of modern facilities, including a dining area, hair salon, activity room, Council managed day care centre, spa room, launderette, guest room and office space. Outside, residents will have access to a communal garden and visitor parking.
The building was officially handed over to the Council by contractor Intelle Construction during the week beginning Monday, July 20. Radis Community Care will provide on site care and support when the first permanent residents move in during August 2026.
The Council has also published information explaining how people can express an interest in becoming a tenant at the new development.
The project forms part of the Council’s wider investment in modern care accommodation across the county borough. Specialist accommodation in Gelli is nearing completion, work has started on a mixed care development in Mountain Ash, and further schemes are planned for Ferndale and Church Village.

“For many years, the Council’s partnership with Codi Group, formerly Linc Cymru, has delivered upon a commitment to modernise residential care options for older people in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Together, we have delivered state-of-the-art extra care developments in Aberaman, Graig and now Porth, alongside the Talbot Green extra care development, which has been open since 2016. These sites remain popular community hubs, supporting older people not only with their care needs, but also with friendship and connection. We will continue investing in modern facilities that meet our communities’ changing needs.
“Having visited the Porth site on several occasions during the construction phase, I have seen it transformed into a first-class accommodation. Specialist care accommodation in Gelli is also nearing completion, while work has begun on a mixed care development in Mountain Ash, bringing extra care, dementia care and Later Living together on one site. Future schemes in Ferndale and Church Village are also being designed and developed.
