With festival season officially under way, a care home in Cardiff is welcoming the local community for a fun-filled afternoon of food and celebration.
On Friday 7th August from 3pm–5pm, Care UK’s Llys Cyncoed will open its doors to families and neighbours for a free food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.
Visitors to the Cyncoed Road home can look forward to a MasterChef-style competition featuring five of the home’s chefs, with each one sporting a stand in the sunshine with their signature dishes available to try.
Guests can then vote for their favourite dish and see the best Welsh care chef crowned on the day, with the competitive spirit brewing between them already as they build up to the big day.
Frances Ferguson, resident at Llys Cyncoed, said: “I can’t wait for the inter-chef competition. My bet is firmly placed on one of the chefs, but I’m not telling anyone which one it is until they’ve won!”
The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see Care UK homes across the country host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.
Each festival will offer sustainable, community-focused activities while championing the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
