A successful National Eisteddfod attracted more than a hundred thousand visitors to a week-long celebration of Welsh language, culture and community in north Pembrokeshire, leaving a lasting legacy for the county.
Eisteddfod y Garreg Las. brought people from across Wales and beyond to Llantwd last week, with Pembrokeshire County Council’s Pentre’r Garreg Las quickly becoming one of the Maes highlights.
Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Councillor Delme Harries, praised everyone who helped make the event a success.
He said: “We are immensely grateful to everyone who played a part in delivering this unforgettable celebration of Welsh language, culture and community.
“Throughout the week, Pentre’r Garreg Las was a vibrant hub of activity, proudly showcasing the very best of Pembrokeshire to visitors from across Wales and beyond.”
Cllr Harries added: “While we celebrate the success of this year’s Eisteddfod, our focus must now turn to the future and to the lasting legacy of hosting this national festival.
“Our priority is to build on this momentum by continuing to grow the use of the Welsh language across every part of Pembrokeshire. We want to see communities on both sides of the Landsker Line coming together, strengthening the Welsh language and the rich culture that accompanies it in every aspect of community life.
“Hosting the Eisteddfod in rural Pembrokeshire has also highlighted the vital importance of our rural communities. Through the work of Pembrokeshire County Council’s Rural Working Group, we are committed to ensuring that the legacy of both the Eisteddfod and Pentre’r Garreg Las endures.
“By supporting Pentrefi y Garreg Las to flourish, we can ensure that the spirit, confidence and opportunities created by this remarkable event continue to benefit generations to come.”
Pentre’r Garreg Las proudly represented the wider Eisteddfod region, which included communities in south Ceredigion and west Carmarthenshire, showcasing the very best of the area through its people, language, culture, heritage, food and environment.
The week also saw significant moments that celebrated Pembrokeshire’s achievements and ambitions, including the signing of the Twf Welsh Language at Work charter, and the recognition of local champions who went the extra mile to welcome the event to the area.
