Colleagues from Monmouthshire Building Society completed a sponsored walk from the Society’s Cardiff branch to its Newport branch, raising £1000 for its charity partner, St David’s Hospice Care.
The team covered approximately 12 miles, completing the route in around four hours, as part of the Society’s ongoing fundraising efforts to support the hospice’s vital work across south east Wales.
St David’s Hospice Care was chosen as Monmouthshire Building Society’s Charity Partner in September 2025, reflecting the deep connection many colleagues have with the charity.
For a number of colleagues, St David’s Hospice Care has supported loved ones through some of life’s most difficult moments, making the partnership particularly meaningful. The charity provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care to patients with life-limiting illnesses, alongside invaluable support for families and carers.
As one of the UK’s largest providers of hospice-at-home care, St David’s Hospice Care supports more than 3,200 patients and families each year across south east Wales, helping people receive compassionate care in the comfort of their own homes.
Each branch-to-branch participant was encouraged to raise a minimum of £30 to take part in the charity walk and 17 colleagues took part.
The event was part of Monmouthshire Building Society’s wider commitment to supporting St David’s Hospice Care throughout its two-year charity partnership. Over the next two years, the Society will raise both funds and awareness for the charity, while working closely with the hospice team to help ensure patients can spend their final days in the way they choose, with dignity, comfort and support.
Mark Howell, Facilities and Sustainability Manager at Monmouthshire Building Society, who organised the walk, said: “We’re incredibly proud of everyone who took part in our Branch-to-Branch Walk. I’d like to extend a huge thank you to our Facilities team, who planned and led the event and played a key role in making it such a success. The determination and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved was fantastic to see, and they truly went above and beyond. Truly, smashed it out the park as always.”
Mark added: “Being able to take part in events like this and raise money for a charity that makes such a significant difference is incredibly important to us. St David’s Hospice Care makes a real impact on people and families across the communities we work in, providing vital care and support when it is needed most.
“Many of our colleagues have also seen first-hand the difference the charity makes during some of life’s most challenging times, which makes supporting their work and this walk even more meaningful. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who donated and supported the walk. Without that generosity, and the strong sense of community across Monmouthshire Building Society, achievements like this wouldn’t be possible.”
