A man has been jailed following an incident involving a Sur-Ron electric bike and an on-duty police officer in Cardiff.
Police were called to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and an e-bike on Amroth Road in Caerau just after 8.30pm on Tuesday, August 11.
The pedestrian was an on-duty police officer who had been carrying out patrols as part of a plain-clothes operation.
The operation was taking place in response to concerns from the community about the illegal and anti-social use of high-powered electric bikes.
Jake Fernandes, 25, from Caerau, was charged with driving a Sur-Ron electric off-road bike dangerously, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, possession with intent to supply cannabis and cultivation of cannabis.
Fernandes pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, September 11, to 21 months in prison.
He was also banned from driving for 21 months.
South Wales Police said it remains committed to tackling community concerns surrounding the illegal and anti-social use of e-bikes and e-scooters in Cardiff, with regular operations taking place.
More than 800 illegal mechanically propelled vehicles have been seized since August 2025 as a result of joint work between South Wales Police and Cardiff Council.
