Bridgend County Borough Council and partners are exploring opportunities to develop a new 3G artificial grass pitch at Porthcawl Comprehensive School for pupils, local clubs and community groups.
A report due before the council’s Cabinet on 22 September proposes a new 3G facility with cross-field goals, fencing, LED floodlights and a shock pad surface.
The council says the proposal responds to increased demand for artificial pitches across the county borough, particularly in winter. It has been working with schools, sporting organisations and funding partners on external investment.
Conditional funding of £241,473 from the Cymru Football Foundation and £150,000 from Sport Wales has been secured following applications. If the project progresses, the council says there is currently no requirement for a capital contribution from the council.
If supported, the facility would be available for school use during operational hours and for community use after school, at weekends and during school holidays. Future management arrangements would include ongoing maintenance and a ringfenced fund for future resurfacing.
The proposal follows the recent opening of a pitch at Bryntirion Comprehensive School.
