Pupils at Pembrokeshire Learning Centre (PLC) took part in a day of drama workshops based on two Roald Dahl stories.
Learners from Puffins, the centre’s primary provision, worked on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Learners from Haven (LRC) explored the characters, themes and story of Matilda through drama, storytelling, movement and creative activities.
Sessions included physical and vocal warm-ups, drama games, storytelling and character work, with props and music. Pupils recreated key moments from the books and experimented with Dahl’s use of language.
The workshops were designed to make literacy active, accessible and enjoyable, supporting vocabulary and understanding as well as speaking, listening, communication and teamwork. Pupils were also introduced to characterisation and key expressive arts vocabulary.
Sian Williams, Headteacher of Pembrokeshire Learning Centre, said: “It was fantastic to see our pupils so engaged and enthusiastic. For some of our learners, developing confidence with reading and literacy can be challenging, so finding creative ways to make stories meaningful and accessible is incredibly important.”
