Fly-tipping incidents in Newport fell in August for the second year running, Newport City Council has said.
The council recorded 496 fly-tipping incidents last month, down from 790 in August 2025 and 895 in August 2024 — a fall of 44.6% from August 2024.
Its waste enforcement and engagement team continued work to deter, investigate and take action against illegal fly-tipping.
In August the council recorded 1,183 visits to known fly-tipping hotspots, 17 fixed penalty notices for fly-tipping offences, 13 fixed penalty notices for other waste offences, 100 warning letters, 126 statutory notices, 99 abandoned trolleys collected and 110 conversations with residents about domestic waste.
The council said a big part of the work is engagement with residents and that teams are happy to speak to anyone with questions about recycling and disposing of waste. Information on managing waste correctly is available on its website, with a link to contact the team for advice on recycling more effectively.
Residents are advised to double check what should go in each bin, take larger items to the household waste recycling centre or book a bulky waste collection, and if paying someone to take away rubbish, check they are licenced and ask where the waste is going, or face a possible fine.
