Work has started on a new-look skatepark in Ystrad as part of a wider £4 million investment in parks, play areas and outdoor facilities across Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Contractors are now on site at Gelligaled Park, where the existing skatepark has been demolished to make way for a new concrete facility.
The new skatepark has been designed with industry experts Maverick and The Skate Company following months of consultation with young people who use the facility for skateboarding, bikes and scooters.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council said the work is expected to take around six weeks to complete.
The project comes after the council confirmed additional funding for improvements to parks, country parks and play areas across the county borough.
Earlier this week, Cabinet agreed an additional £750,000 for an existing £3.3 million programme, taking the total investment during the current financial year to more than £4 million.
The funding will support a range of projects, including new and upgraded play areas and the rebuilding of skateparks in both Ystrad and Beddau.
Investment will also go towards safety fencing and surfacing, improved access, pathways, car parks, fencing, toilets and club houses, as well as sports facilities including pitches, stands and changing rooms.
Attention will now also turn to plans for the new-look skatepark in Beddau.
An online consultation event will take place on September 30, giving residents and users an opportunity to see the plans for the first time and speak with skate figures Russ Holbert and Ian Jennings.
