Bridgend County Borough Council is holding free sessions for residents interested in becoming a councillor ahead of local government elections in May 2027.
The prospective candidate sessions will run from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday 13 October and Wednesday 14 October. They are intended to explain the role of a councillor, the functions of the local authority, and how someone can become a candidate and stand for election.
Council Leader John Spanswick said: “These sessions are ideal for anyone who is considering standing as a councillor. Being an elected member is open to anyone over the age of 18 who is on the electoral register and who has have lived in, worked within or owned a property in the county borough for at least the last 12 months.
“If you care passionately about your local community, want to drive forward positive change and have the ability to make challenging decisions, then the prospective candidate sessions will give you a valuable insight into what it means to be a councillor, and what you need to do to become a candidate in the forthcoming election.”
Places are limited and booking in advance is essential. Residents should email [email protected] and state which date they wish to attend.
