A rundown former railway building on the walkway at  Meliden, Prestatyn, is undergoing a revamp, transforming it into a community hub with a café, heritage displays, bike hire facility, and business units.

And artists, photographers, craft makers, and food producers are being offered the chance to showcase their wares once the building – to be called Y Shed – opens.

Inside Y Shed will be space for talented artists, producers and craftspeople to display and sell their products with project leaders, charitable housing association  Grŵp Cynefin and  Meliden  Residents Action Group, particularly keen to support local and upcoming contemporary talent.

Mair Edwards, Grŵp Cynefin’s Community Initiatives Manager, said:

“Y Shed is very much a community project, developed by the community for the community. There is an array of talent in the local area, people making their own jams, chutneys, through to potters, photographers and artists.

“The list is endless and we’re sure there are creative people out there looking for new ways to showcase their work. Y Shed can provide the space to do this and we’re particularly interested in products made locally or works of art that reflect the area itself.”

Y Shed’s gallery space will enable different artists and products to be displayed at different times, giving visitors something new to see and experience each time they visit.

“With tens of thousands of people using the walkway every year, this is a wonderful opportunity for makers, designers, and artists to reach a new audience,” added Mair.

Anyone interested in displaying their work or selling their products at Y Shed can contact Grŵp Cynefin on 0300 111 2122 or via [email protected]

The Grade II listed building will be the first railway heritage attraction of its kind in Prestatyn.
