    Sarah recognised for her commitment to training the next generation of midwives

    Long-standing dedication to training the next generation of midwives has put Sarah Norris and Swansea University’s midwifery team in the running for a top national award.

    Sarah has been shortlisted for the Excellence in Midwifery Education category in this year’s Royal College of Midwives (RCM) annual awards

    Head of Midwifery Education and Lead Midwife for Education at the College of Human and Health Sciences, Sarah is pleased and excited to be shortlisted.

    “This really is recognition for the whole midwifery team and for midwifery students at Swansea,” she said.

    A midwife for 25 years, Sarah has involved in education of the past 15 years.

    She has overall responsibility for the quality of midwifery programmes and for supporting the development of innovative and exciting teaching approaches including those offered by the Midwifery and Parenting Centre at the College’s Health and Wellbeing Academy.

    She said: “Every day is a new challenge. I am very lucky to work with a team of dedicated and passionate midwives who care about the best standards of care for parents and babies through providing an excellent programme of education for student midwives.

    “The learning opportunities in the Midwifery and Parenting Centre have been of great benefit to the students who have gained valuable experience in antenatal education classes and supporting new parents with breastfeeding.”

    The RCM Awards, which will be held in London in March, celebrate outstanding achievements in midwifery across the UK and aim to reward those making a difference for women, families and newborns.
