Captain Beany swaps orange for yellow to support Great Daffodil Appeal

Caped crusader Captain Beany swapped orange for yellow this week, as he joined Morrisons shoppers, staff and Marie Curie fundraisers for the charity’s Great Daffodil Appeal in the supermarket’s Baglan store on St David’s Day.

Captain Beany, who supports numerous charity events across the area, swapped his bean-coloured cape for a gold one, emblazoned with a B made of daffodils to support the terminal illness charity’s biggest annual fundraising appeal.

Marie Curie daffodil pins will be available on high streets, and Morrisons stores across Neath Port Talbot throughout March.   The Captain was joined by Marie Curie Nurses from the team based in Neath Port Talbot during the morning.

Marie Curie is hoping that this year more people than ever will wear a daffodil pin to show their support to the charity. Our aging population means that more people than ever are living with a terminal illness and every five minutes, someone in the UK dies without getting the care and support they need at the end of their life.**

The money raised will help Marie Curie Nurses be there for more people living with a terminal illness, providing them with vital one-to-one nursing care and emotional support in their own homes.

Captain Beany said: “I’m glad to have BEAN involved in helping fundraise for Marie Curie and mark St David’s Day by encouraging shoppers at Morrisons to don their daffodil and help raise funds for care and support for people living with a terminal illness, and their families, to continue.”

Ali Discombe, Community Fundraiser, Marie Curie said:  “We want to thank Captain Beany for giving his time today to host our collection at Morrisons Baglan, and supporting the Great Daffodil Appeal.

“Whatever your story, donating and wearing a daffodil pin during March unites you with millions of others to help make sure all dying people get the care and support they deserve.  Our nurses care for people in their own homes, providing one-to-one care overnight and support for family members. And we’re always here with expert information, guidance or just a shoulder to lean on.

“We are so proud to be supported by Morrisons again during the Great Daffodil Appeal. Last year, Morrisons raised an amazing £600,000 and we are aiming to beat that this year. None of us know when we, or someone we love, might need that extra support provided by Marie Curie. We hope that all Morrisons customers can get behind Marie Curie and make a donation in return for a daffodil pin this March.”
