Bevan Buckland LLPis pleased to announce that Maggie’s will be their chosen charity for the next year as voted for by their staff. The firm will raise essential funds through events and their business contacts, plans of which are already well underway.

Maggie’s is a UK based charity with local links that proudly provides free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends. Every year more than 300,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in the UK, and the charity has a long history of helping sufferers face the tough questions, exhausting treatment and difficult emotions that follow diagnosis.

“When I first found out about being able to nominate a charity to support for the year it was a pretty straightforward decision for me to suggest Maggie’s. Having seen first-hand the help and support the centre gives to people with cancer and also their friends and family, I immediately felt it was a cause I would be happy to support. The average cost to fund a centre is around £500k per year and therefore it is imperative that the charity has the support of volunteers. I feel that if we can help, even in a small way, then it is worthwhile,” said Alex Powell, Audit Senior at Bevan Buckland LLP.

Maggie’s delivers support across 22 self-funded centres, which are based throughout the UK and overseas. Maggie’s Swansea is Bevan Buckland LLP’s local support centre. It is the only centre in Wales currently, although Maggie’s Cardiff is due to open in April of this year. The firm will play an active role in helping Maggie’s to continue their work supporting anyone and everyone affected by cancer.

Bevan Buckland LLP is currently helping Maggie’s to prepare for their Kitchen Table Day, which takes place on Friday 29thMarch and encourages everyone to get around their kitchen table to talk about cancer. Staff will also be joining the Port Talbot Half Marathon on Sunday 11thAugust 2019.

Lucia Osmond, Centre Fundraising Manager for Maggie’s Swansea, added, “We are delighted to be chosen by Bevan Buckland LLP this year as their charity. We rely solely on the generosity of the community to help keep the doors open to our 1,300 visitors each month, supporting them at often the most vulnerable time of their lives.”

Maggie’s isn’t the only charity Bevan Buckland LLP supports. As a company, they give all staff members one charity day per year so that they can give back to the community. On their community day staff members can choose to fundraise, raise awareness, give their time or all of the above in the name of any charity of their choice. If charities would like to utilise these community days, simply get in touch with Bevan Buckland LLP direct.

“Myself and Alex had the pleasure of having a tour of the Maggie’s complex within Singleton Hospital Swansea after they were voted our Charity of the Year for 2019. Maggie’s provides everything from one-to-one support to empowerment masterclasses. The centre itself is a place to wait away from the typical hospital environment, and Maggie’s strives to complement medical treatments with support provided by a range of staff and volunteers. Maggie’s is a charity funded entirely by the kindness of donors and fundraisers like us. I am proud to be part of a firm that is actively trying to raise money for such a worthy cause,” concluded Abby Thomas, Audit Senior at Bevan Buckland LLP.
