A local politician has asked for Assembly time this week to question the Welsh Government about the collapse of a major construction company.
It was reported last week that Swansea-based Dawnus Construction has gone into administration. Three Powys schools and a new road in Pembrokeshire are among the projects effected.
Labour Mid and West Wales AM Joyce Watson said:
“My immediate concern is for the workers and their families, and for those left out of pocket throughout the supply chain – they deserve urgent answers.
“We need to know, too, what is happening with the projects underway and in the pipeline, including two new primary schools in Welshpool, a replacement all-through school in Machynlleth and the new road in Fishguard.”
Mrs Watson, who is chair of the Assembly’s construction cross-party group, has tabled a ‘topical question’. It will be put to economy minister Ken Skates on Wednesday (20 March), if agreed by Presiding Officer Elin Jones.
Dawnus Construction Ltd was contracted to build a 360-pupil English-medium primary school and a 150-pupil Welsh-medium primary school in Welshpool – and a replacement for Ysgol Bro Hyddgen in Machynlleth. The Welshpool English-medium school was scheduled for completion this September, while the other two projects are still at the planning application stage.
Meanwhile, work has halted on the £1.1 million Chimneys Link road and redevelopment scheme in Fishguard.
