The Health Lottery has this week (Wednesday 22nd May) announced that Health Lottery Wales smashed their target of raising £6 million, which to date, has supported 169 local charities in Wales.

To celebrate, Health Lottery Wales hosted a party with local Flintshire charity, RainbowBiz CIC yesterday with a shining guest list ofFlintshire locals including; Social Enterprise Development Lead Officer for Flintshire County Council, Mike Dodd, nearby community groups; Trii Fford, students from Coleg Cambria and Gillian Brockley Chair for Shotton town council.

Sarah Way from RainbowBiz CIC led a tour of the allotment to showcase first-hand the amazing work the project is doing to bring people in the community together through a love for gardening and the outdoors.

Sarah said “We had so much fun at the party – it was exciting to be able to share and celebrate our work with the community! We are so thankful to The Health Lottery who have made all of this possible.”

With the sun shining, it didn’t take long before local councillors and mascot Baxter Bear grabbed a spade and alongside project members and began digging and sowing new seeds for future growth and prosperity.

Rainbowbiz CIC received a £32,419 grant from People’s Health Trust with money raised through The Health Lottery in Wales to fund their Digging Deeside project.

The project was praised for its excellent work in the community.

While the day-to-day of the project sees members digging, planting fruit and vegetables, sowing new seeds and weather-coating fences, the core of the project is a vision for equality and the empowerment of people of all abilities to build confidence and make a difference in the local community.

Nicola Brian, Director of Communications, Evaluation and Learning at People’s Health Trust, said: “It is important to celebrate the incredible work local charities and community groups like Digging Deeside are doing in their neighbourhoods to address health inequalities.

“Money raised through The Health Lottery provides a vital source of funding that has enabled us to support 169 across Wales.”

Martin Ellice, joint Managing Director of The Health Lottery added: “To date we have raised £6 million to support local charities in Wales.

“Projects such as Digging Deeside make such a difference in the community and we’re delighted to have celebrated this milestone with them today.”
