It includes images from an official booklet that fans bought when they sang and danced to rock legends The Who at the Vetch Field in 1976.

There’s an evocative booklet called Those Saturday Nights that tells the story of Townhill’s old Tower Ballroom.

Other items include an old newspaper advertisement for The Kingsway’s Top Rank venue promises: “A top-line band; luxurious surroundings. Disc jockey. Dancing to suit all tastes.”

The items are among those being submitted by music fans eager to contribute to a unique exhibition and film, both being created this year to help Swansea mark its first 50 years as a city.

The 50 Years of Music in Swansea project is being run by the Fusion Programme, a Welsh Government-funded initiative managed in the city by Swansea Council’s cultural services team. Fusion enables individuals and communities to benefit from participating in culture, arts and heritage.

Robert Francis-Davies, the council’s cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: “This film and exhibition will be a striking addition to Swansea 50 –a real talking point.

“As we celebrate half a century as a city memorabilia from music fans across the city will be a catalyst to help celebrate five decades of outstanding Swansea music.

“I hope that people all over the world who have enjoyed Swansea music since 1969 will play a part in that celebration.”

Swansea Fusion co-ordinator Amina Abu-Shahba said: “Sharing the love of your memorabilia is a great way to contribute to our 50 Years of Music in Swansea project; we want to celebrate the vibrant history of music in Swansea.

We welcome all sorts of items, including film footage, set lists, flyers, magazines, artefacts and photos. We’re working with Swansea Museum and experienced curators to showcase and protect treasured items. [/aoa]

“Our collection of memorabilia, photographs and film will take people on a journey through the past half century of Swansea music.

“There have been so many amazing local venues, performers, experiences and visiting stars that we know there’s a treasure trove of great items out there.

“We’re also making an oral history documentary film to capture the memories – we’ve started the filming and would love to hear from people who’d like to tell us their music-related stories.

“We can be reached through our Facebook page, kindly managed by project volunteers.”

The exhibition is due to be on view from mid-September at Swansea Museum.
