Hodge Foundation helps City Hospice patients get back on the road

The Hodge Foundation, keen supporters of City Hospice, Cardiff’s local hospice, have donated £25,857 in order for the charity to buy a brand-new minibus for patients.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, City Hospice goes out into the community to collect patients and bring them to hospice for Day Centre and various appointments with the clinical team. This means that families and carers are given some respite and the patient can enjoy an afternoon of activities, learn something new and chat to new friends, all whilst being in a supported environment with their clinical team close at hand.

The Hodge Foundation awards grants to charities across a range of causes and was set up by Sir Julian Hodge in memory of his mother Jane. The Foundation has supported City Hospice since its beginnings in 1984 and has continued to help the charity support patients and families across Cardiff.

Speaking on behalf of the Hodge Foundation, Karen Hodge said:

“We’re delighted to be able to continue to support City Hospice and the excellent work with they do in providing essential services to those in need. The minibus will be a welcome addition to the excellent facilities available and we know it’ll have such a positive impact to both patients and their carers and families.”

City Hospice is a registered charity at the heart of Cardiff, providing specialist medical, nursing and end of life care to patients in their own homes. The charity offers counselling to adults and children, welfare benefits advice and day centres with a range of activities. It is the only at-home palliative care provider for the city of Cardiff and needs to raise a total of £2m to keep providing these specialist services.

Liz Andrews, City Hospice Chief Executive, would like to thank the Hodge Foundation for its fantastic donation. “This donation will really make a big difference to so many of our patients and their families. Our new minibus means we can transport more wheelchair users and more patients in general, which is brilliant. We really appreciate the long-term support we receive from the Foundation. They have enabled us to do so much and are helping us to care for people throughout Cardiff every day.”
