£460,000 over two years has been pledged towards the restoration of Cardigan Market Hall.

Ceredigion County Council’s Cabinet made the decision to provide the money to the Cardigan Building Preservation Trust on 30 July 2019.
Cardigan Market Hall is a Grade II listed building in the centre of Cardigan. It houses the indoor market with space for 49 market stalls. It is owned by the council and is managed by Menter Aberteifi under a three year management agreement.

Recent work to the building has shown that the work needed to restore the hall will cost almost £1.5m. Bids have been submitted to pay for the work. Although £990,000 of EU funding has been secured, the council needed to provide the additional money after a bid for Heritage Lottery Funding was declined.
Councillor Rhodri Evans is the Cabinet member responsible for Economy and Regeneration. He said, “It’s really important that we’ve agreed to pay £460,000 for the project because it brings in another £990,000 into the area. Had we not done this, Ceredigion would have lost almost £1m of external funding, and the hall would not get the work that it sorely needs.”
The Cabinet approved paying up to £460,000 towards the restoration and enhancement of the hall subject to the appropriate terms and conditions and legal agreements. The money also depends on relevant grant funding being secured and all property and project management arrangement being resolved.
