Celebrating its 20th year, Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend held over the August bank holiday (23-25th August). Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend is Wales’s biggest celebration of equality and diversity and over the three-day event the festival hosts over 50,000 people in the Welsh capital to raise awareness of equality and diversity and supporting the LGBT+ community

To celebrate this milestone, Pride Cymru has created a gender-neutral bathroom sign that will be used across the festival site on all toilet doors during the event, as well as within many companies across Cardiff.

A gender-neutral bathroom is a toilet facility that is physically accessible and open to people of any gender, or gender neutral.

[/aoa]Gian Molinu, Chair of Pride Cymru said: “We believe installing the gender-neutral toilet sign across Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend is a simple way to represent the much more complex challenge of discrimination in relation to homophobia, biphobia and transphobia. We want to create an environment in which people feel comfortable being who they are, at home and in their local community.

“We’re so thankful to see some of Cardiff’s biggest businesses join us in this exciting campaign. We hope that by creating welcoming and inclusive spaces, we are one step closer to a society where we celebrate and accept diversity.”

James Waugh, St David’s Dewi Sant shopping centre, General Manager said: “We’re thrilled to support the Gender-Neutral toilet campaign and are proud to celebrate diversity within the community in Cardiff. We hope everyone has a wonderful Pride festival this weekend!”
