A highly-anticipated development of 30 homes overlooking Cardiff Bay in Penarth will be launched by Savills at a public event this weekend.

Sainte Adresse is a striking, architect-led scheme of 24 two bedroom apartments and 6 three bedroom duplexes, set into the headland above Penarth landmark, The Old Custom House.

The event, which will take place on Saturday 7th September between 12pm-5pm at Pier 64 on Penarth Marina, marks the official launch of the new homes to the market by selling agents, Savills. Caroline Vanner, head of Savills residential development sales in Cardiff said:

“There has been a great deal of early interest in Sainte Adresse, with some of the apartments having already been reserved off-plan. We are thrilled to bring the scheme to the market this weekend and give buyers the opportunity to find out more. Those who register to attend will be able to take a virtual tour of the apartments, and discuss the specification on offer with the team. With such an excellent pedigree and ethos behind it, we expect this unique development to sell well.”

Set high on Penarth’s headland, cleverly stitched into the surrounding landscape, Sainte Adresse is designed to represent the best in contemporary architecture. The land on which it sits, meanwhile, is firmly rooted in local history.

The site was originally that of Northcliffe Summer House, built for local merchant, M. Ernest Plisson. Plisson was head of Lysberg Limited, one of the largest coal exporters, pitwood importers and colliary agents in the Bristol Channel in the early 1900s. His ship, Sainte Adresse, was called after the French city with which he traded, and, a century on, gives the new scheme its name.

Sainte Adresse comprises three linear apartment blocks over three separate terraces stepped up the headland, uniquely designed to allow for the homes to enjoy their own personal vistas, including  spectacular skyline views over Cardiff Bay. Chris Loyn of Loyn + Co, the award-winning architects behind the scheme, commented:

“It’s fantastic to work with a developer who genuinely cares about the quality of architecture he commissions. The design brief evolved with Jon Shields of Scimitar Developments enabling a scheme containing generous spatial arrangements to be created, both internally and externally.

“Across the site the apartment plan widths are generally 12m with a depth of 7-9m; this is in stark contrast to the deep, narrow plans too often seen in typical speculative developments today. The sloping nature of the site and the profile and massing of each block means that each and every apartment is individual.

“It is wonderful to see the shared vision realised and the care being taken in its construction and workmanship, particularly the beautiful facing brickwork. We cannot wait to see it finished.”

Sainte Adresse is being constructed by Scimitar Homes Ltd, a bespoke housebuilder and developer, specialising in ultra-modern, high-specification residential developments. Jon Shields, Director, comments on the scheme’s progress:

“We are hugely excited about the launch of our Sainte Adresse development in Penarth. It`s taken a while to get where we are but we believe the journey has been worth it and the apartments in Penarth will provide an amazing place to live for its future residents. The views are truly outstanding.”

Guide prices range between £350,000 and £425,000 for a two bedroom apartment and £575,000 for a three bedroom duplex.
