This year’s annual Swansea Council Fireworks Display will take place over the vast waters of the bay on November 5 – and will be free to all.

Traditionally held at the St Helen’s rugby ground, this year’s exciting Bonfire Night showpiece will move just a short distance away and will be freely accessible to all as an offshore display.

This will be a one-off change to the event as part of Swansea’s 50th anniversary city status celebrations.

The beach will be open to spectators and the fireworks will be launched from a barge in the bay. The event is expected to attract thousands of viewers and will be visible around the bay weather permitting.

Robert Francis-Davies, the council’s cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: “Our annual fireworks event is Swansea’s biggest display, offering people a great sociable occasion with a real wow factor in a safe, family-friendly environment.

“It will be even more memorable this year, with the fireworks being reflected in Swansea Bay – and free for all to see.

“It will add extra sparkle to the city’s Swansea 50 celebrations. This has already had some incredible occasions, including civic events with Catherine Zeta Jones and Alun Wyn Jones, cultural specials such as the new Swansea Stories exhibition at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery and community gatherings like the summer’s St Helen’s Road street party.”

The fireworks event is due to take place from 6-8pm on Tuesday, November 5, with the best views available on the prom between the Civic Centre and Brynmill Lane, a similar event footprint to the hugely successful free annual Wales Airshow. The display itself will take place from 7pm for around 20 minutes.
