In aid of The Wallich, Destination Ski will be collecting unwanted, good condition ski jackets to redistribute to people sleeping rough in Cardiff.
The charity event will take place Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October between 10am – 4pm at 12 Morgan Arcade, Cardiff, CF10 1AF.
If you donate a ski coat to Coats For Cardiff you will receive £100 off your next ski trip with Destination Ski plus 10% off a ski jacket purchased from Coyoti Ski in Cowbridge.
Ian Coles (Operations Manager) at Destination Ski, said: “As a ski-specialist company, unforgiving conditions is something we are used to but you’d never think about being out there in unsuitable clothing. Some people don’t have that luxury.”
“We would like to thank David Barnes Dry Cleaning and Laundry, Cardiff, who will be cleaning and re-waterproofing the jackets then donating them to The Wallich, a Welsh homelessness and rough sleeping charity, the jackets will then be distributed via their rough sleepers intervention team who are out and offer assistance 365 days a year.
“We hope that the donated ski jackets can help to protect some vulnerable people living in Cardiff over the harsh and unforgiving winter months. Since 1978 The Wallich has been providing accommodation and support services for homeless people in Wales. Now with a team of 300 dedicated people, they strive to make life better for those who are experiencing homelessness. Last year alone The Wallich supported 9,562 people experiencing homelessness across Wales.

“Ski jackets are designed to withstand extreme weather conditions and for someone living a street-based lifestyle, exposure to extreme weather can be life-threatening. This is why your donation is so important.
“A good quality waterproof coat, which fits properly, can make a real difference to someone who is sleeping rough as staying warm and dry can prevent people from developing serious health conditions that can put their lives at risk. By taking part in the Coats for Cardiff event, you will be helping ensure that someone who is forced to sleep rough is protected from the elements.

Pass the Parcel helps The Wallich buy appropriate items for people on the streets, in the right size and in a colour of their choice, as and when they are needed”.
