A Cardiff-based sports radio show has been shortlisted for a prestigious UK radio award for the third year in a row.

The Terrace Radio Show, presented and produced by Chris O’Brien on Radio Cardiff 98.7FM, is in contention for the Sports Show of the Year accolade at the UK Community Radio Awards – to be presented on Saturday evening (October 26).

O’Brien’s show hit the airwaves in July 2016 – then known as OB’s Saturday Sport Show. It has since switched to a Thursday evening slot, and can be heard on the station between 8pm and 9pm.

It has been shortlisted for the awards each year since its launch, winning Silver in the sports category last time out. Following ceremonies in Bristol (2017) and Sheffield (2018), the awards are hosted in South Wales this year – at the Memo Arts Centre in Barry.

‘The Terrace’ continues to maintain a core ethos of delivering parity of coverage for Cardiff’s professional scene and the city’s grassroots sporting community; providing a platform for events on the global stage, to the local pub dart board, and everything in-between.

Chris O’Brien, Radio Cardiff DJ, said: “I’m absolutely over the moon to be in contention for the Sport Show of the Year at the Community Radio Awards for a third year in a row.

“It was a privilege to win Silver last time out – and an honour to be shortlisted again by judges for 2019.

“The show has always sought to give under-represented teams, sporting passions and endeavours a voice on the airwaves, and we’ve met so many amazing people doing that again over the last year.

“Community radio is a relatively new sector in the UK – but has huge potential; delivering so much local, accessible content and a unique platform to listeners. I feel very lucky to be able to broadcast this show on Radio Cardiff; the only terrestrial station of any kind broadcasting exclusively to Wales’ capital city.

“Our doors are always open on The Terrace Radio Show. It doesn’t matter if you’re set to perform at the Principality Stadium, or have a pool match down your local, we’d love to chat to you.”

Radio Cardiff broadcasts an array of diverse musical styles, local and national news and community interest programmes, every day – and is available on 98.7FM and online, including via its own dedicated app. Dozens of volunteers support the very existence of the station.
