A ‘Right Royal Knees up’ helps support Welsh families

Residents in Llanharan marked the Royal wedding with a street party fundraiser, combining the nuptials with an opportunity to come together as a community and raise money for Tŷ Hafan – one of the UK’s leading paediatric palliative care charities, helping children and families throughout Wales deal with the most difficult times.

A hundred residents at Llanmoor Homes St Ilids Meadow development came together for an afternoon and evening of party games, arts and crafts, royal-themed fancy dress, BBQ and buffet to toast the Royal couple and raise awareness of the great work being undertaken by Ty Hafan.

Local businesses supported the event, with Pencoed Party providing a balloon arch for the street and the local ice cream van man calling by to provide some essential chilled refreshment during the sunshine!

Organised by St Ilids resident and Ty Hafan events officer Lisa Williams, the wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle gave Lisa the idea to combine the day with an occasion for the already friendly neighbourhood to enjoy where they live while doing their bit for such an important Welsh charity.

“We’re a very sociable neighbourhood and regularly host occasions at various neighbours’ houses, so it seemed the perfect thing to have a party for the Royal Wedding that could include the full development! I wanted to make it something a bit more special than just a street party, so combining it with the idea of fundraising for Ty Hafan seemed ideal.

“Having initially only asked for £1 per resident contribution towards decorations, many have donated more than £10 each to allow us to donate the profit to Ty Hafan. The Royals seem very keen to help support local charities, so we thought we would do our bit too.

“We’ve had a fantastic day enjoying the Royal wedding spectacular and then the fun and games following and it’s been lovely to have the whole development together, enjoying the open spaces and celebrating the happy couple.  We’re looking forward to hearing our final total raised and big congratulations Prince Harry and Meghan!“

Llanmoor sales director Tim Grey added:

“It’s great to see community spirit still going strong and that’s exactly how we feel about our developments – as communities; well done to Lisa and everyone involved in this fantastic fundraising effort.”
