Staff at a Penarth hospice hung up the bunting and donned fascinators to help patients celebrate the Royal Wedding.

Ward sister Gill Davies organised a Royal Wedding lunch buffet party for patients and their families at the Marie Curie Cardiff and the Vale Hospice, which provides round-the-clock care and support to people living with a terminal illness, and their families.

Held in the Day Therapy Unit, patients who felt up to it were brought down from the wards to sit – or wheeled down in their beds – to watch Prince Harry wed Meghan Markle on television, along with some patients relatives and some staff members.

The hospice kitchen provided a lovely buffet with quiches, sandwiches and Meghan and Harry cakes for the event, and there were even some pops of fizz with Prosecco and Elderflower Spritzer.

    Gill said:

“We always try to make sure our patients are included in any celebrations which are taking place outside of the hospice, inside of the hospice.

“We’ve held a Christmas party, an Easter celebration and also marked Wimbledon last summer.

“Thank you to all the staff who supported the event.”

The hospice is always looking for new volunteers to help in various roles, including helping at such events.  A Recruitment Roadshow will be held at Penarth’s Y Kymin on Wednesday, May 30, from 4pm to 7pm, if you would like to hear more about volunteering opportunities either at the hospice, the charity’s shops or officer or in the community.

You can pre book at www.mariecurie.org.uk/joinus or pop in on the day.
