A fox has had a lucky escape after he was trapped by garden fencing in Penclawdd, Swansea.
The fox was found this week (30 December) after he had managed to get his back leg caught in a wire fence at a garden in West End Road.
RSPCA inspector Gemma Cooper attended at 11am following a call to the animal welfare charity.
She said: “Ironically the owners had purposely chosen sheep fencing for the garden in order to support the local wildlife but this seems to have been a freak accident for the poor fox.
“The wire was wrapped tightly around his back right leg but was cut away using wire cutters, leaving a superficial wound. The fox had only partial feeling in the leg and was not using it and so unfortunately he could not be released straight away.”
The fox is now been assessed and given treatment by the RSPCA.
Gemma added: “Hopefully following rehabilitation and the appropriate treatment he will be able to be released back into the wild. He had some sensation in the leg – and he is also in immaculate condition so we are really hopeful.
“We’d like to thank the caller for alerting us to the fox straight away so we could safely release him and make sure he is given the treatment he needs.”
The RSPCA would like to issue a reminder that during the winter, everyone should still be checking their garden and fence line every day for any trapped wildlife.
