Charitable organisations across Wales and south west England received more than £84,000 last year thanks to the fantastic fundraising efforts from Wales & West Utilities colleagues.

Kind-hearted employees from the gas emergency and pipeline service have taken part in hundreds of events, whilst also volunteering their time to support local teams and clubs, leading to them raising over £84,000 – making it the company’s highest charitable donation to date.

Of the £84,000, £20k has been given directly by Wales & West Utilities through its match-funding programme, which supports the efforts of its colleagues to make their fundraising go further, whilst £10k has benefitted many local clubs and teams, by way of sponsorship. Whilst colleagues themselves raised a staggering £54,000 – directly benefitting thousands of people across the company’s operating area.

As part of its commitment to support the efforts of colleagues, Wales & West Utilities now sponsors a host of sporting teams from across Wales and the south west of England. Through the programme, the company has provided clubs with vital funds which have allowed them to purchase much-needed equipment and kit, so that hundreds of youngsters from grass-root teams can benefit.

Wales & West Utilities People & Engagement Director, Sarah Hopkins, praised the efforts of colleagues and said:

“This past year has seen our colleagues go the extra mile and we are delighted to have been able to help colleagues raise such a fantastic amount for charitable causes.  We are proud to help colleague efforts go that bit further to help make a positive impact to society.

“As a company, we are committed to supporting the communities we serve across Wales and the south west of England – not only in heating and powering homes and businesses but in giving something back through fundraising and charitable giving.

“We are delighted to have donated so much last year and are now looking forward to making our charitable efforts bigger and better in 2020!”
