Swansea tech company Quicklink flies the flag for innovation

Swansea-based tech innovator Quicklink Video Distribution Services is proud to have raised its Queen’s Award for Enterprise flag this week.

The flag now proudly waves outside the company’s headquarters showing that it has been given the royal seal of approval as the winner of this year’s Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation.

A leading global provider of software and hardware IP solutions for live and edited video, Quicklink has claimed the 2018 title in recognition of its ground breaking Quicklink TX video call management solution.

The award means Quicklink, which celebrated its 15th year in business last month, is flying the innovation flag for Welsh business and technology around the world.

The annual awards are only given for the highest levels of excellence demonstrated in each category and are judged to a demanding level. Winners receive a number of benefits, including international recognition.

Richard Rees, CEO and founder of Quicklink, said:

“Flying the Queen’s Award crest outside our offices shows how hard our team has worked to achieve true excellence and expertise in our field. The fact that our product, Quicklink TX, was the product which the judges deemed worthy is significant as it is a product which is already making a difference in the world of broadcasting.”

Richard added:

“It is a truly innovative product, which our customers are already benefitting from. In today’s content hungry age, contributions need to be accessed from anywhere at any time, allowing news, opinions and events to be broadcast live. Developing corporate and broadcast solutions is what makes us tick to further innovate the market. This award further strengthens our credentials and supports our customers’ experiences of our leading quality and innovative broadcast products.”

Quicklink TX is a video call management system which allows the integration of live, professional quality Skype video calls for entertainment shows, radio and other live broadcast events. The solution has been

designed in partnership with Microsoft and has been used by companies such as BBC, Aljazeera, CNN, BT Sport, ITN, Microsoft, Bloomberg, Comcast and Fox Sports.

As a leading global provider of software and hardware IP solutions for live and edited video, innovation and quality are at the core of Quicklink’s beliefs. Its customers require solutions that they can rely on for high-quality, live content contributions and broadcasts.

In 2017, Skype TX, the technology behind the Quicklink TX, was also honoured with an Emmy® Award for Technology & Engineering. Skype TX has been used by over 1,200 broadcasters internationally and has delivered over 20-million minutes of high-quality Skype calls.

Founded in 2003, Quicklink has been innovating since its inception, as its founders were approached to build an encoder to allow the BBC to broadcast live from the Iraq war – which they did.

Rapid growth ensued, and the company moved to Swansea in 2013. It is committed to the development and production of innovative solutions, such as their latest Studio Solution to meet the ever-changing needs of their customers.
