The situation is changing all the time and therefore services are likely to be disrupted across the network throughout Sunday with last minute alterations.
Transport for Wales’ Operations Director, Martyn Brennan and Chris Pearce, Head of Operations, Network Rail Wales and Borders said: “As a result of flooding caused by Storm Dennis in the past 24 hours, Transport for Wales and Network Rail are strongly advising all customers to check their journey arrangements prior to travel on Sunday (16 February) and allow plenty of time to their journey.
“Following very heavy rain and high winds on Saturday a number of lines are currently closed on the network due to flooding.
“The safety of our customers and colleagues is our absolute priority and we are working closely together to minimise any disruption by doing all we can to keep our customers moving and informed.
“Where trains are cancelled or terminating short of destination, road transport is being arranged whenever possible, however some roads are impassable.
“We will continue to work throughout the remainder of today and throughout the night to ensure we are in the best possible place to run services safely on Monday morning however, with a major incident now declared in south Wales we anticipate there could be significant disruption to services tomorrow morning.”
The following lines are closed and, in line with the national weather warning customers are being strongly advised not to travel unless absolutely necessary on these routes, many roads are impassable so replacement bus transport unable to make the journey.
- Valley Lines – flooding at Taffs Well has cut off services to Aberdare/Treherbert/Merthyr Tydfil.
- Ebbw Vale Town – Crosskeys line is closed and replacement bus service suspended as the roads are impassable
- Newport to Hereford – line is closed and replacement bus service suspended as the roads are impassable.
The following lines are also closed until further notice as of 14.00pm Sunday 16 February:
- Blaenau Ffestiniog to Llandudno Junction
- Shrewsbury and Chester
- Dorrington to Church Stretton
- Shrewsbury – Birmingham International – no trains between Shrewsbury to Wellington
- Gobowen to Wrexham
- Caersws to Machynlleth
- Dovey Junction to Aberystwyth/Pwllheli
- Lydney to Gloucester
