Popular Get Jerky branded snacks get the SALSA seal of approval

A fast-growing Welsh beef jerky snacks manufacturer has achieved the nationally recognised SALSA standard which demonstrates that the Welshpool-based company produces safe and legal food.

The standard opens the door for Trailhead Fine Foods to sell its award-winning Get Jerky branded snacks to large retailers, including supermarkets. Written by experienced food safety experts, SALSA is an approval scheme that helps local and regional food and drink producers to sell their products to national and regional buyers.

Trailhead’s handmade, artisan jerky is produced with responsibly sourced PGI Welsh Beef and marinated using secret, unique recipes. The jerky is made gluten free and low in fat, which makes it a healthy alternative to sugary and high fat snacks.

The Get Jerky snacks are available in more than 100 stockists across the UK, including service stations, farm shops, delicatessens, convenience stores, tourist attractions, petrol stations, breweries, pubs and hotels.

Sales have grown by 300 per cent in the past year and the company hopes the SALSA standard will provide a springboard to sell even more snacks during 2020.

The company currently sells six flavours of beef jerky and is planning to launch two exciting new Get Jerky products later this year. Currently employing three staff, the company is expecting to add at least one new recruit in 2020.

There are also plans to introduce the Get Jerky brand to Europe this year. Closer to home, Trailhead Get Jerky will be represented at Farm Shop and Deli Show 2020 at the NEC, Birmingham from March 30 to April 1.

To promote the Get Jerky brand to a wider audience, the company sponsored T-shirts for referees and loaders at the Wales Strongest Women Competition in Llangollen last month, which was televised by S4C and streamed live on Facebook.

Sponsorship of Wales rally star Tom Cave, from Aberdyfi, in the British Rally Championship has been renewed and the new Trailhead Get Jerky Devil’s Staircase Ultra Trail Race is being launched in Llanwrtyd Wells on April 4.

Emma Morris said: “Our Welsh Beef Jerky is perfect for sports events and adventure attractions because it is nutritious and high in protein, providing the fuel for customers to enjoy all the activities.

“Everyone who tries them says they are full of flavour and they can actually taste the beef, compared to some other products they have tried.”
