Caerphilly county borough council has appointed Christina Harrhy as its permanent Chief Executive and she is pledging to work with the new Leader of Council to help create a ‘bright new chapter’ in the history of the organisation.

Christina Harrhy was appointed as the permanent Chief Executive earlier this week at a Special Meeting of Council and is determined to help the organisation move forward following the turbulence and uncertainty it has experienced over recent years.

Christina and the Leader of Council, Cllr Philippa Marsden, have a shared ambition to transform the authority in order to better meet the growing needs and aspirations of the community.

Christina Harrhy said, “I’m delighted to be appointed as the Chief Executive after undertaking the role in an interim capacity for the past 2 years. I was born and raised in this area, I attended school here and I have worked for many years within the community, so I have a close affinity with the county borough and the people who live here.”

“I firmly believe that we are one of the best councils in Wales with a dedicated and professional workforce who are passionate about improving the lives of local people. We want to harness this positive power through an ambitious transformation strategy called ‘Team Caerphilly’, which will create a bright new chapter for the organisation.”

Leader of Council, Cllr Philippa Marsden added, “I would like to congratulate Christina on her appointment and I’m pleased that we can continue to build on the excellent work that has already been delivered over the past 2 years. Myself and my Cabinet colleagues are looking forward to working closely with Christina and her Corporate Management Team to progress an exciting agenda of transformation and positive change over the coming years.”
