Nature lovers have taken part in an open day in Ruthin.

Denbighshire County Council, along with Bionet, the Wales Biodiversity Partnership and The Friends of Nantclwyd y Dre, hosted the event on June 9 in Nantclwyd y Dre, Ruthin, with 185 people attending.

The open day, held as part of Wales Nature Week, included face painting and a showcase of conservation work with talks and activities throughout the day.

Cllr Tony Thomas, Denbighshire’s lead member for Housing, Regulation and the Environment, said:

“It was great to see so many people attend our nature day at Nantclwyd y Dre.

“As well as inspiring the next generation of conservationists, the event gave families a chance to enjoy the fantastic setting of Nantclwyd y Dre and its gardens.

“Protecting and enhancing the environment is a priority for the Council, and hosting events like this helps spread that message.”

Pupils from Rhos Street School, Ruthin, provided a wildflower Wheel of Fortune during the event to raise awareness of wildflowers, with funds raised put towards the Glasdir Living Classroom, a partnership project between the school and Denbighshire Countryside Service.
