A semi-professional Welsh footballer will be driving around in style after winning a Toyota GT86 sports car worth £28,000, thanks to dream car competition, BOTB.

Thomas Walters, from Bridgend, plays as a forward for Welsh League Cymru South side Goytre AFC, and was left stunned this week after BOTB presenter Christian Williams rang to surprise him with the news.

“I just couldn’t believe it,” said the 23-year-old, who has been on the injury list since last year after tearing the cartilage in his knee.

“I was actually looking at buying a GT86 and now I’ve won one.”

Thomas is currently working on the manufacturing line for a medical supplies company making Covid-19 tests, but he used his footballing brain to win the competition, which works in the form of an online version of the classic spot the ball.

Thomas can’t wait to be able to take his new car on some of the scenic routes nearby to his home in south Wales.

“There are a lot of mountains and hills around where I live with some amazing views,” he said.

“There is one drive here called the Bwlch, it’s a famous route and one I’ll definitely be going on.”

BOTB presenter Christian Williams surprises winners all over the world every week, although during coronavirus he will be doing surprises over video chat, rather than visiting the winners on their doorsteps.

“The GT86 is a really nice car and Thomas is certainly going to be looking the part when he arrives at training in the future,” said Christian.

“It sounds like there are some great driving routes near to where Thomas lives and we hope he has a lot of fun in his new car.”

Since being founded in 1999 by William Hindmarch, BOTB has given away over £32m worth  of prizes.
